August Guitar building workshop. Learn how to design and build
electric guitars or bass or other string instruments.
We will discuss guitar design elements, wood and local sources, and how to select the best hardware for your design.
We will show you the combination of power tools, hand tools and templates we use to shape our necks and bodies. We will also explore the different ways to connect the neck and the body, and what some of the advantages or disadvantages that may be found with either method.
We believe our construction methods are conducive to one off and custom designs. But we are also always learning ourselvs and we will explore other methods that other luthiers use.
We encourage the design of custom guitars and not just making copies. And building from a fre-fabbed 'kit guitar' is expressley not allowed.
We will not hold your hand through the build process, so previous wood shop experience is helpful but not necessary. Basic wood shop safety will be covered and emphasised thought the workshop.
Power tools such as table saws, bandsaws, planers and drill presses are available to all Shop People members.* A limited number of hand tools such as fret saws, wood rasps will be available to workshop students.
Classes will meet Thursday evenings 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
416 SE OAK, Portland
Workshop Cost is $300.00 ($150.00 is your Shop People membership)*
